Livestock Loss Prevention Program
Agency: Montana Livestock Loss Board
Program Website: http://liv.mt.gov/LLB/default.mcpx
About The Program
The purpose of the Montana Livestock Loss Program is to acknowledge the importance of economic viability and sustainability of individual livestock operators in Montana who are negatively affected by wolves or grizzly bears. Specifically, the purpose of the loss reduction and mitigation programs are:
- To provide financial reimbursements to producers for losses caused by wolves or grizzly bears based on program criteria.
- To proactively apply prevention tools and incentives to decrease the risk of wolf or grizzly bear caused losses.
Each year through the program, Montana’s Livestock Loss Board receives a limited amount of funding for loss prevention grants.
Anyone may apply to the board for livestock loss prevention grants. All grants issued by the board require a 50% cost share from the applicant. Cost share can be in the form of cash and/or in-kind contributions. All cost share information must be documented. Receipts for materials are essential.
This year’s grant application deadline is August 30th. Grant applications can be found at the Livestock Loss Board web page.
